Saturday Guard Homecoming ~ Wedding Bells Sunday: A WEEKEND OF HERITAGE TO CELEBRATE There will be lots to celebrate at Upper Canada Village this weekend. Saturday, August 29 will portray the happy return of soldiers after battle, with a colourful visit by the Fort Henry Guard; Sunday will turn the page to a 19th century country farm wedding. Add these two eventful days together with a special heritage dinner and an overnight stay, all at an unbeatable package price, and you’ve got a heritage weekend getaway that’s well worth the trip … back in time, that is! This special heritage weekend will kick off on Saturday, with the arrival of a small contingent of Fort Henry Guard from Kingston at Upper Canada Village. After being away at battle, the Guard will take to the streets, playing fife and drum along the way throughout the day. Visitors will be able to join the action as the Guard occasionally break from their music to muster up some new young recruits for the British Military, putting them through a series of drills and marches. On Saturday evening, Willard’s Hotel will be open for a 5:30 p.m. seating, dishing up a delicious heritage meal after the day’s activities. Visitors can choose from a three-course oven-roasted chicken meal or an old-fashioned three-course minced pork and beef pie dinner. Seating is limited, so reservations are required (613-543-0660). Willard’s Hotel will also be open for lunch both days with a range of menu options. On Sunday, visitors are invited to gather round the festivities as one of Mr. Loucks’ daughters exchanges vows with an upstanding young gentleman at an outdoor country wedding on the family farm. A garden reception will follow, with refreshments for all. Another reason to celebrate is the fantastic package prices for visitors to take advantage of this weekend. Admission to come both days will be only $20 per adult/senior plus GST. (That’s a savings of $17.90 per adult). The weekend deal will be extended to students/youths for only $10 per person, and children 2 to 4 will cost only $5 for the two days. The heritage dinner at Willard’s on Saturday evening is $24 per adult or $13 per child. For anyone looking to turn it into an overnight getaway, the entire package including two days admission, heritage meal, plus overnight and breakfast at the nearby McIntosh Country Inn in Morrisburg is only $94 per person (plus taxes, based on double occupancy) – call 1-888-229-2850 to reserve your stay.
