Old-fashioned Family Fun at this Weekend's FALL FAIR From 25-cent treats, old-fashioned kids’ games and family entertainment, to agricultural displays, horse-drawn ploughing demonstrations and Heritage Horse & Cattle Shows, there will be something for everyone to enjoy at Upper Canada Village’s upcoming FALL FAIR, one of a variety of celebrations in the Village’s “Flavours of Autumn” event series being offered this year . On September 19 and 20, the Village fairgrounds will be brought to life with this entertaining re-creation of a traditional 1860s agricultural exhibition. The Fall Fair is an excellent opportunity to see the best of things made and grown at Upper Canada Village. Agricultural and dairy products, vegetables, flowers, handiwork and fine art will all be on display in the Floral Hall. (The Floral Hall will be open to visitors starting on September 17 to allow early viewing of entries.) All entries are characteristic of the 1860s and meet guidelines set out by Upper Canada Village, giving the sense of a true 19th century fair. This year, visitors to the fair will be entertained with traditional Horse-drawn Ploughing Demonstrations taking place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. each day. A Heritage Horse & Cattle Show featuring the Canadian Horse will both again be part of the program. One of the highlights of the event is the more-than-“fair” prices for treats served on the Village fairgrounds. Apples, Village-baked bread, Village cheese, cider, lemonade and fudge will all be available at only 25 cents per serving. The Village Store will also be open, offering fall specials on much of its merchandise. What fair would be complete without fun and laughter? Visitors can catch the excitement when the Travelling Tiltons, a 19th century minstrel troupe, cause a ruckus as they roll into town on a horse-drawn wagon each day. These boisterous and rowdy entertainers will give the crowd a taste of their "stand-up" comedy, singing, and lively instrumental music played on the banjo, harmonica, fiddle and horns. Steve Baker, snake oil salesman, slight of hand illusionist, mentalist and all round entertainer, will be back with three different shows each day Saturday and Sunday. His magic and acting talent, relaxed sense of humour and audience interaction make his shows a sure fire hit for any crowd. Children are invited to participate in several 19th century games taking place throughout the weekend. Ring toss, three-legged races, sack races, wheel barrow races, and more are being organized to provide young visitors with a taste of some good old-fashioned fun. The Fall Fair is a great tradition at Upper Canada Village, and remains one of the most popular events in the year. All Fall Fair activities are included in the general admission fee to Upper Canada Village for the day. Visitors wishing to come for both days may purchase a special 2-day pass at the gate for only $20 per adult/senior, $10 per student/youth and $5 per child.
