Time Travellers Try-a-Camp

Historical Discovery Camp for Boys and Girls ages 8 – 11

This 3-day version of the Time Travellers Camp is geared to children whose families are looking for a shorter camp experience. Each session begins Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. and ends Sunday at 2 p.m.

Do you have a child who is interested in overnight camps but doesn’t want to be away from home for a whole week? The Time Travellers Try-a-Camp is an ideal introduction to the residential camp experience.

Just like Time Travellers, campers wear an authentic 1860s costume and take on the role of a child in a 19th-century community. They participate in a variety of activities such as milking cows, feeding livestock, working with tradesmen, sewing, singing, dancing, 19th-century games and more. Group activities allow campers to explore Upper Canada Village in the evening and get to know one another by playing 1860s games and sports.

Eligibility and Notification of Acceptance

The program is open to boys and girls aged 8 to 11 as of June 1st. Participation is limited to a maximum of 20 campers per session. Applications are reviewed to ensure they are complete, and that applicants meet the eligibility criteria. All criteria being met, campers are selected and assigned on a first-come first-served basis. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of April. They will receive a confirmation letter, a "what to bring" list, and a health history form.

Participants stay in one of our 19th-century residences. These buildings have been outfitted with period furnishings, but also contain modern washroom and shower facilities. Also note that while we make efforts to accommodate dietary requests, we cannot guarantee that all requests can be met.

Round-the-clock supervision and direction is provided by camp staff and interpretive staff working in Upper Canada Village.

The cost of the program is $290 (plus tax) per participant and is due upon notification that your child has been accepted. Of this amount, $100 is non-refundable. The entire fee is non-refundable on the first day of camp.
