Broaden students’ awareness of the history and culture of early societies through a full day of discovery and action-packed fun at a Medieval encampment on the grounds adjacent to Upper Canada Village. Students will learn about Medieval life across the globe through the eyes of its warriors, royalty, Medieval families, artisans, merchants and buskers; they can cheer for their favourite competitor’s homeland at the Knights of Valour Jousting Show. Hands-on games and activities, theatrical performances, comedy acts, music, dance and magic add to the festive atmosphere. All presentations and workshops offered during our Medieval Festival Education Program are not only designed to be grade and age level appropriate, they are also both educational and entertaining. Homeschoolers are welcome too.
A detailed Schedule of Activities will be posted a couple of weeks prior to the event taking place on Medieval Monday.
MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR VISIT
To get the most of your school visit, please plan to attend the Festival for at least half a day. We make every effort to include one of every type of "scheduled" show or workshop in both morning (10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) and afternoon (12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.). This includes a twice daily Jousting Tournament, as well as a number of performances such as music, dance, comedy, buskering, warrior demonstrations and falconry.
Other activities, including historical encampments, vendor booths, medieval games and wandering entertainment, continue throughout the day. Medieval characters will also be available for interviews with students to discuss the daily lives of the medieval period.
Teachers are encouraged to assign students a project while they are in attendance at the festival, or to have them search out different characters and ask them questions related to their position in the shire. Students and chaperones are welcome to come dressed in medieval attire if they so choose!
