QUEEN VICTORIA BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
Sunday and Monday
May 18 & 19
"We will be amused!" Join in the celebration as an 1860s Village celebrates Queen Victoria's birthday. Sing "God Save the Queen", hear historical patriotic speeches, see grand military manoeuvres, lace up for the 1860s athletic games, and witness the Village's "Queen" (a hand-pumped fire engine) perform in a fire engine trial. Celebrations will continue on Monday with music, speeches and more games.
SPRING ON THE FARM
Tuesday, May 20 to Thursday May 29
A special time of year as the Village awakens with new life. Take part in the many agricultural activities of an 1860s community: planting, rail-fence building and discussions on agriculture and horticulture. Children will love to see a number of adorable newborn farm animals that appear each year with the arrival of spring. Great for school programs too!
HEIRLOOM PLANTS AND GARDENS WEEKEND

Nurture a piece of our history! Heirloom varieties of perennials and annuals grown within Upper Canada Village and in the Queen Elizabeth Gardens will be for sale. Related gardening books and merchandise will be available, and experienced horticultural staff will be present to answer gardening and pest control questions. A perfect way to start your spring gardening plans!
SHEEP SHEARING
Friday, May 30 to Monday, June 2
With summer on its way, it is time to shear the sheep, removing the coats they have grown over winter. Watch the sheep being sheared by hand on the main barn floor at Loucks Farm.
NEW MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL AT UPPER CANADA VILLAGE HERITAGE PARK
Friday to Sunday, June 13 to 15
A colourful cast of medieval re-enactors, musicians, buskers, artisans, falconers, archers, merchants and jousting Knights in shining armour on horseback will converge on the grounds outside of Upper Canada Village from Friday through Sunday, June 13 to 15, 2008. This festive encampment of tents, mini-stages, natural arenas and livestock quarters will also feature trebuchet and catapult competitions, children’s activities, a medieval marketplace and pub. A sumptuous and entertaining King’s Banquet will be offered on Saturday Evening.
Visitors are encouraged to come dressed in medieval attire.
Admission: adults - $15.00 / seniors - $12.00 / teens (ages 13 to 18) - $10.00 / youths (ages 5 to 12) - $7.00 / children (ages 2 to 4) - $3.00
SPRING GARDENS
Saturday, June 14
Spring features of the Upper Canada Village gardens, hotbeds, transplanting demonstrations and spring flowering heirloom varieties will be highlighted. The first in our "three-seasons" garden series.
GRAND OPENING OF THE MASONIC LODGE
Saturday, June 21
Join us as we celebrate the addition of a “new” 1860’s Masonic lodge to Upper Canada Village. This project, in partnership with the Masons of Eastern Ontario, offers visitors the chance to learn about the history and role of a Masonic lodge and fraternal societies within Upper Canada during the 19th century. Several original 19th century Masonic items gathered from within the eastern region will be on exhibit in the lodge.
FAMILY ACTIVITY CENTRE OPENS
Saturday, June 28 to Monday, September 1
Nineteenth century games, toys, dress-up and all around fun can be had at the Activity Centre daily throughout the summer. Try your hand at carding wool, writing with a quill pen, skittles, a historically themed craft and more. Friendly staff will be on hand to provide instruction to visitors.
AN 1860s WEDDING
June 29, July 5, July 27, August 10
Take part in the excitement of one or more re-created 19th century country weddings. Join in the ceremony and all the festivities taking place as part of these celebrations. Marvel at the procession of horse-drawn carriages as Villagers dressed in their finest attire make way to the church. Be sure to get your piece of wedding cake.
PRE-CONFEDERATION DAYS
Monday and Tuesday,
June 30 and July 1
Come watch as villagers engage in animated political discussions about the pros and cons
of the impending Confederation, with John A. Macdonald himself showing up for the occasion!
Old-fashioned childrens games such as ring toss, three-legged races, spoon and sack races
and tug-of-war will be offered on both days and continued through the week.
195TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF CRYSLER'S FARM
MILITARY RE-ENACTMENT WEEKEND

July 12 and 13
Hundreds of historical re-enactors are expected to converge on the grounds near the Battle of
Crysler's Farm Visitor Centre. Military re-enactors and military music will be part of this two-day
event celebrating the 195th anniversary of the Battle of Crysler's Farm. Battle re-enactments will
take place on Saturday afternoon and evening, and Sunday afternoon.
Admission to battles: adults $3 / children (ages 5 to 12) $2.
AN 1860s ELECTION
Saturday and Sunday
July 19 & 20
Debates, speeches, heckling, some bribery and the celebratory parade through Village streets are all part of this exciting public event. Visitors who meet the stringent electoral criteria of the time will be granted the right to vote for their favourite historical candidate.
SUMMER GARDENS
Saturday, July 26
Summer features of Upper Canada Village's gardens, pest control, and summer flowering varieties will be highlighted. Second in our "three-seasons" garden series.
U.S. CIVIL WAR RE-ENACTOR ENCAMPMENT
Saturday and Sunday, August 2 & 3
Come and meet over 40 Canadian and American civil war re-enactors encamped near the Family Activity Centre at Upper Canada Village. They tell the story of 50,000 Canadians who participated in the US Civil War. Tour their camps, watch drill and fire demonstrations, and join in the "School of the Soldier" program offered on both days. There will also be skirmishes between the north and south re-enacted outside the front entrance to Upper Canada Village on both Saturday and Sunday.
ANTIQUE CAR SHOW
Sunday, August 17
See antique and classic cars exhibited at the entrance to Upper Canada Village (free admission). Inside the gates, visit the Transportation Museum and see the many historical vehicles used on site. (Regular admission applies for activities inside the Village.)
A VILLAGE IN MOURNING - A 19TH CENTURY FUNERAL
Saturday, August 23
The Village mourns the death of one of its citizens. Follow the horse-drawn hearse and observe 1860s funeral customs during this sad occasion, from mourning clothes to the draping of black crape throughout the homes.
LABOUR DAY WEEKEND - FAMILY MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL

Join in the fun at the Village's Family Activity Centre for three fun-filled afternoons of musicians, storytellers and puppetry.
FALL GARDENS
Saturday, September 13
Fall features of the Upper Canada Village gardens, winter preparation techniques, seed saving, and fall flowering heirloom varieties will be highlighted. The final segment in our special "three seasons" series.
DOORS OPEN - Aultsville Train Station

September 6 and 7
Take a peek inside the Aultsville Train Station located just outside of Upper Canada Village. Constructed between 1866 and 1889 for the Grand Trunk Railway Company, the station was originally located in the Lost Village of Aultsville. Inside the station visitors will find a ticket office and a collection of train memorabilia. On site is also a locomotive, passenger coach and baggage and refrigeration car. Free admission - as part of the Cornwall and SD&G Doors Open program.
FALL FAIR

Participate in the excitement of a traditional 1860s Fall Fair at Upper Canada Village. Villagers
have been preparing for this event for at least a month ahead, making sure their exhibits are
the best qualified to win the prize money. Guidelines have been developed to ensure all entries are
close to the 1860s fair rules. Walk through the fairgrounds to view livestock, agricultural and
dairy products, vegetables, flowers, and fine arts. Join in the many games and old fashioned
variety of entertainment for the entire family. (Exhibition tent open for viewing beginning
Thursday, September 18.)
QUILT SHOW
Saturday and Sunday

The annual Quilt Show has many activities to keep avid quilters busy. Visit an 1860s Quilting Bee, view Upper Canada Village's quilts on exhibit, hear quilt talks from noted quilters, and see a colourful Quilt Show hosted by Quilting Guilds from across Eastern Ontario. Bring one of your treasured quilts and have it appraised, and visit the merchant's area for all your quilting needs.
FALL AT THE FARM

Watch an 1860s community prepare for the coming winter with a host of vigorous harvesting activities in home and field.

Join in the celebration of the Harvest Season , with old-fashioned family games and farm activities, Fall specials at the Village Store, and traditional turkey dinner on site. (Please note that the entire 1860s program is not available after October 5).

Come for a taste of fall at Upper Canada Village! For select days in October (after its main summer program ends), the Village will open its gates and select buildings to give visitors a sample of 1860s life against a picturesque autumn backdrop. Take a breather in the crisp, country air. Treat your senses to the cozy smells of wood fires and open hearth cooking. Whet your appetite with some fresh-baked Village Bread, Village Cheddar Cheese and other local produce offered on site.
Then satisfy your hunger with a hearty meal at Willard’s Hotel.
Discover even more tantalizing treats and sampling at the Village Store.
Admission: adults $8.95 / children (ages 5-12) $5.00. Lunch is extra.
ALIGHT AT NIGHT

Stroll around the streets to see the picturesque Village "Alight at Night" with over a QUARTER MILLION lights!
Night-time horse-drawn wagon rides provide old-fashioned tours around the site, and a brilliantly lit Toy Train
will be offering round trips through Crylser Park. The Village Store will be open nightly, featuring fresh-baked
bread from the Village Bakery and photos with Santa (on select evenings). Outdoor skating provides a fun way
to warm up. Enjoy festive dining at the Harvest Barn on site, or at the nearby Upper Canadian Cookhouse.
Romantic horse-drawn carriage rides for two are also offered, by advance reservation 1-800-437-2233 or
