Grade 3 Special Activity Days

Tuesdays and Wednesdays, May 12 & 13, May 19 & 20 and June 2 & 3, 2015

Explore life in the 1860s while taking advantage of a series of activity centres tailored specifically to the Social Studies, English, Mathematics and Science & Technology strands of the Grade 3 Ontario Curriculum.   Compare early settlers’ diets with today’s, use simple tools like wheelbarrows to carry a load, find out about early transportation methods, sing pioneer songs, learn about the Loyalists, make your own quilt pattern, estimate the number of boards in a pile of lumber and more.

Self-Guided Discovery Visit

Daily May 6 to September 7

Fashion a trip back in time specific to your own needs!  The Village provides a real-life, interactive environment to learn about life in the 19th century and how the past continues to shape our lives today.  Meet the blacksmith, farmer, dressmaker, mill worker weaver, tavern keeper, school teacher and many other costumed staff who will engage students in discussions about their role and work in 19th century society. Horse-drawn boat and wagon rides included. 
Combine with Miniature Train ride for only $11.54 per student.

Second Annual War of 1812 - Education Day

Custom-made to address expectations in the Grade 7 Ontario History Curriculum,
the War of 1812 Education Day allows students to investigate the causes, personalities and impact of the War of 1812, use a variety of primary and
secondary sources, and explore key characteristics of life in the early settlement of English Canada. Students will rotate through a series of hands-on mini
sessions, including deciphering period documents, cooking over an open fire, experiencing the impact of the War on civilians, executing 1812 military drills
and exploring the impact and contributions of First Nations peoples.

Village Overnight Live-In Adventure

May 6-7, 2015;  May 11-14 2015; May 26-28, 2014, June 1-18, 2015 (Monday to Thursday); September 9-12, 2015 and September 16-19, 2015;

*Primarily offered Monday to Thursday; weekend program is possible if space allows

Come and walk in the shoes of the past! The Live-In adventure is a unique opportunity to immerse students in the everyday life of a 19th century child.
Under the guidance of costumed Village staff, students are provided with reproduction period clothes and then introduced to hands-on activities
such as baking over an open hearth, tinsmithing, sewing and blacksmithing. They also milk cows, help with farm chores, and attend a one-room school
house. The overnight program begins at 1 p.m. and finishes at 11 a.m. the next day. Book soon as sessions fill quickly.

Duration: 1 p.m. and finishes at 11 a.m. the next day

Day-Time Adventure

May 19-22, 2015

For schools or groups who are unable to spend the night, Upper
Canada Village now offers a day version of the Live-In. It runs from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Book soon as sessions fill quickly.

Train Special

May 6 to September 7, 2015
Weekends only from September 12 to 20, 2015; $11.54 per student
 

 Save 50% on your Miniature Train ride by combining it with your Upper Canada Village visit when you book.

Hop on the Miniature Train for a fun and educational ride through Crysler Park.  Listen to the bilingual commentary about the role of the railroad in Upper Canada, the Battle of Crysler’s Farm, see a short video inside the train tunnel and hear the booming sound of the cannon getting ready for battle. Students will also learn about the transformation of the St. Lawrence River and the building of the Seaway.

Medieval Festival and Warriors through Ancient Civilizations - Education Day

Broaden your students’ awareness of early societies and medieval history, architecture, music and weaponry in a full day of ACTION-PACKED FUN, including a jousting tournament, continuous hands-on workshops, music, dance, games, comedy acts and more! All presentations and workshops offered during our Medieval Times and Early Societies Education Day are not only designed to be grade and age level appropriate, they are also both educational and entertaining. Homeschoolers are welcome too.

Sheep Shearing

Tuesday to Friday June 2 to 5, 2015
10:00 am to 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Included in Village admission

Celebrate spring on the farm by trying your hand at sheep shearing and meeting the new lambs. Check the washing of fleece, and carding, spinning and weaving of wool at the McDiarmid House and at Asselstine’s water-powered Woollen Mill.

Upper Canada Village's more than 40 heritage buildings and winding roads through a pastoral landscape provide a perfect setting for a visual tour through time. Your group of 15 or more can enjoy the beauty and serenity of the Village during the off-season, as a Village guide leads an informative and scenic walking tour along the Village streets. Arrange your tour by calling our Customer Service Unit staff.
