Safety Policies

To ensure your safety, the protection of our historic collections and buildings, and the safety and enjoyment of other visitors, we ask that the following site policies and guidelines be observed while in the Village.

  • The grounds of Upper Canada Village are SMOKE FREE
  • Eating and drinking are not permitted in the historic buildings.
  • Guide dogs and other service animals are welcome. All other pets must be kept on a leash and may not enter historic buildings.

  • Please do not pick flowers, crops or fruit in the Village.

  • Do not climb walls, trees or fences.

  • The livestock are not pets and may cause injury. Please exercise caution. Do not feed the livestock.

  • Visitors are requested to leave strollers outside the furnished houses on site. 

  • All buildings are at least partially wheelchair accessible. Please ask staff if you need assistance.

  • Rollerblades, skateboards and bicycles are not permitted in the Village.

  • Visitors are encouraged to bring cameras and other electronic devices for personal photography and filming, but are asked to use caution in their use. Advanced notice and special permission must be sought should you have more complex photographic needs (eg. electric power, artificial light, photography for commercial purposes...).

  • The roads in the Village are not paved!

  • Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable footware.

  • The sun in the 1860s was just as hot!

  • Visitors are encouraged to wear hats and sunscreen.
