Safety Policies

Welcome to the Village To ensure your safety, the protection of our historic collections and buildings, and the safety and enjoyment of other visitors, we ask that the following site policies and guidelines be observed while in the Village.

  • Smoking, eating and drinking are not permitted in the historic buildings.
  • Seeing eye and hearing aid dogs are welcome. All other pets must be kept on a leash and may not enter historic buildings.
  • Please do not pick flowers, crops or fruit in the Village.
  • Do not climb walls, trees or fences.
  • The livestock are not pets and may cause injury. Please exercise caution. Do not feed the livestock.
  • Visitors are requested to leave strollers outside the furnished houses on site. A limited number of strollers are available upon request at the front entrance.
  • Some historic buildings are not accessible by wheelchair, or access is through an alternative entrance nearby. Please ask a nearby Village staff member for assistance.
  • Rollerblades, skateboards and bicycles are not permitted in the Village.
  • The use of personal stereos (e.g. walkmans/radios) are not permitted in the Village.
  • Visitors are encouraged to bring cameras and camcorders, but are asked to use caution in their use. Advanced notice and special permission must be sought should you have more complex photographic needs (eg. electric power, artificial light, photography for commercial purposes...).
  • Visitors with medical conditions or requiring special assistance should check in with the Security office upon entering the Village.
Some Friendly Advice:
The roads in the Village are not paved!
Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable footware.

The sun in the 1860's was just as hot!
Visitors are encouraged to wear hats and sunscreen.
