Village Opening Day

As one of the largest living-history museums in Canada, Upper Canada Village invites guests to step back in time to 1866 and experience rural village life. The Village offers an immersive experience with more than 40 historic buildings, traditional trades, farming, music and 19th century social life.

What was it really like to live and work in the 19th century?

Experience traditional farming techniques, demonstrated through the growing of heirloom vegetables and raising of heritage livestock breeds. Ornamental gardens throughout the village feature flora fashionable in the Victorian era. Weavers, spinners and dressmakers demonstrate traditional handiwork. See historical trades being demonstrated and water-powered mills at work. Aspects of mid-19th century social life, music, religion and politics are discussed and demonstrated by knowledgeable staff dressed in clothing of the period.
