Program Information
How Do I Know If This Camp Is For Me?
Living in the 19th century for a week-end can be fun but is very different from the 21st century. This is a technology-free camp; campers should be ready to leave their modern forms of entertainment behind and enjoy the games and activities of long-ago. Time Travellers Try-a-Camp is a small camp and has an onsite first responder during daytime hours (9:30 am to 5:00 pm) but does not have an onsite nurse or doctor. The closest hospital is 30 minutes away. If your child suffers from a serious allergy or medical condition, please contact us at UCVyouthprograms@parks.on.ca for further information and to discuss the suitability of Time Travellers Try-a-Camp.
Eligibility & Notification of Acceptance
This camp is open to children aged 8 to 11 as of June 1st. Participation is limited to a maximum of 20 campers per session. Applications are reviewed to ensure they are complete, and campers are selected and assigned on a first-come-first-served basis. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of April. They will receive a confirmation letter, a "what to bring" list (also available below), and a health history form.
Accomodations
Campers stay in one of our 19th-century residences. These buildings have been outfitted with period furnishings, but also contain modern washroom and shower facilities. They are also serviced with A/C unit and they have a common room for leisure activities in the evenings.
Meals
Campers eat in a dedicated dining hall separate from the public area of the site. Our camp kitchen and dining hall are nut-free; however, the children spend significant portions of their day sharing spaces with the general public where contact with food is beyond our control. Please also note that while we make efforts to accommodate dietary requests, we cannot guarantee that all requests can be met. For more information, please contact us at UCVyouthprograms@parks.on.ca
Supervision
Round-the-clock supervision and direction are provided by camp staff and interpretive staff working in Upper Canada Village. Each house campers sleep in are staffed overnight by one of our camp counsellors to attend to any issue that might arise during the night. Security staff are also present onsite 24/7 to act as first emergency contact, liaising with appropriate resource and providing in person help to campers and onsite staff.
