Senior Youth Interpreters Program
Take the Senior YI Challenge!
Senior YIs are older youth interested in further developing their "hands-on" historical, interpretive, research and leadership skills. These youth are in historical costume at Upper Canada Village for two consecutive long weekends in the July and August sessions and three weekends for the September session (6 days total). On site, Senior YIs help portray the life and activities of young adults during the 1860s. They have a unique opportunity to develop their "hands-on" historical skills and knowledge both in their assigned location(s) and by researching together "behind-the-scenes" in the Village Library and Archives. With guidance, Senior YIs learn more about and gain additional valuable experience as historical interpreters. They also have the chance to develop their own leadership skills and abilities by assisting with other youth programs on site.
Eligibility and Notification of Acceptance
Youths 15, 16 or 17 years of age as of June 1st, are eligible to apply to be Senior YIs. Successful applicants will be notified at the beginning of May. Remaining spaces will be filled up to the first day of each session.
Please note that at present, Upper Canada Village does not provide accommodation for Senior YIs. It is the Senior YIs and their parents' responsibility to arrange for transportation and/or accommodation if required.
