Morrisburg, Ontario — A long-standing Upper Canada Village supporter, this year Ontario Power Generation (OPG) have generously sponsored both Pumpkinferno and Alight at Night festivals.

In 2023, the 23rd edition of Alight at Night, OPG has provided $5,000 to back the Sound and Lights Show at Crysler Hall, a feature attraction of the winter festival.

Earlier this month, Glen Denney (Operations Manager – Eastern Operations) and Matt Mulhill (Stakeholder Relations Advisor) presented the community donation to representatives of Upper Canada Village, Carli Smelko (Special Events Officer) and Caroline Trépanier (Supervisor).

The support received from OPG for the sound and light show at Crysler Hall adds to the charm and guest experience at the award-winning outdoor light festival, Alight at Night at Upper Canada Village.

“The Sound and Light Show is one of the most popular experiences at Alight at Night, with a spectacular display timed to favourite holiday tunes,” said Tracey Ogilby (Manager, Upper Canada Village). “We are grateful for OPG’s support of this and other events, including our annual Pumpkinferno exhibit each fall.”

“Ontario Power Generation has been proudly part of the Eastern Ontario community for more than 100 years,” said OPG’s Glen Denney, Operations Manager, Eastern Ontario. “We don’t just generate electricity – we are also pleased to support initiatives like this in the areas where we live and work, to help keep our communities strong and healthy.”

The Sound and Light Show is one of the most popular experiences at Alight at Night, adding a spectacular display amongst the glow of a million lights adorning the heritage buildings and trees.

Alight at Night runs nightly from December 21, 2023 to January 6, 2024 (closed December 24 and 25).

About Pumpkinferno
When the sun goes down in the fall, the daily toil of 19th century village life fades away and Upper Canada Village is transformed into an enchanted wonderland with brilliant pumpkin sculpture exhibits installed throughout the 1-km Village canvas, all ablaze across under the night sky.

Since originating the Pumpkinferno experience more than 10 years ago, Upper Canada Village has become Ontario’s pre-eminent expert on pumpkin events and artificial pumpkin carving, assembling a talented group of artists who spend four months each year designing and carving thousands of pumpkins to bring this artful exhibit to life.

About Upper Canada Village
Depicting life in a rural English Canadian setting during the year 1866, Upper Canada Village is one of the largest living-history museums in Canada. It was founded in 1961 and features more than 40 historic buildings, many of which were moved to the Village from the “Lost Villages” to preserve them prior to the flooding for the St. Lawrence Seaway development project. Talented historical interpreters bring these buildings to life every day, recreating traditional trades, farming, music and 19th century social life – creating an immersive guest experience that makes every visit to the Village different from the last.
